Dog Killed, 11 Displaced After Concord Fire
The Concord Fire Department is investigating what caused a fire in the basement of an Eldridge Street home earlier today.

CONCORD, NH — The Concord Fire Department is still investigating the cause of a fire on March 5, 2017, that took the life of a dog and displaced 11 people. According to Concord Fire Chief Dan Andrus, fire and rescue teams were called to 9 Eldridge St. at just before 11:45 a.m. for a report of smoke coming from a basement.
“The fire was confined to the basement and was reported under control at 12:34 p.m.,” Andrus noted. “There were no injuries and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.”
The American Red Cross responded to the scene to assist family members, he noted, with obtaining temporary housing, replacing clothing, and assisting them with other needs.

All the city's units responded to the scene to fight the fire. Andrus stated that mutual aid units from Allenstown, Bow, Boscawen, Pembroke, as well as Penacook Rescue, provided coverage for Concord stations during the incident.
The single-family home, just off Airport Road, was constructed in 1960, according to the city’s assessing online database.

Janet Vaughn of the American Red Cross stated that action team volunteers have met with the residents to ensure that they had the essentials. Over the next several days, Red Cross client casework volunteers will stay in contact with the residents and provide referrals as they begin the road to recovery, she noted.
