Down Man On Storrs Street, Homeless Camp Fire Extinguished At NH DOT Building In Concord
Concord cops, fire and rescue teams were sent to an unconscious man on Storrs Street and then, a fire where new apartments are being built.
CONCORD, NH — Just before firefighters were sent to a crash scene where fuel was leaking, other teams were sent to a man down, who was unconscious and not breathing, Tuesday and then, a homeless camp fire on Storrs Street.
Just past 3 p.m., dispatchers received reports of a man down, unconscious and not breathing, underneath Loudon Road along Storrs Street. Police were also sent to the scene.
When they arrived, they found the man, away from the overpass and closer to Ferry Street, yelling and screaming at them.

“The subject has sprung to his feet and is very irate that we are here,” they said. “Got PD coming?”
“That’s correct,” the dispatcher said, “they are coming.”

When police arrived, the man, who was known to the officers, began walking away toward The Friendly Kitchen. One officer said firefighters for an object in the area. The officer said the man also ripped his shirt off while walking away. A second officer requested backup from the food kitchen side of the street, claiming the man had a knife.
A couple of minutes later, the officer said the man was now sitting on the ground, and they would speak with him to make sure he was OK.
After about 15 minutes, firefighters cleared, an officer said the situation was under control, and EMTs prepared to clear the scene. But they began to see smoke coming from the area between Loudon Road and the old New Hampshire Department of Transportation shed, now being redeveloped into apartments by Brady Sullivan, a Manchester developer.
The commander said ambulance crews were running over with some cans, and the fire was up against the building.
“Might want to start an engine,” the commander said.
Dispatch said they were working on it.
The EMTs confirmed there was a mattress up against the building that was on fire, and they had cans on it. The commander said they would check for an extension, and dispatch sent more firefighters.
Around 3:45 p.m., firefighters confirmed “a little bit of extension” into the building but had extinguished the bulk of the fire and were overhauling.
During the past decade, there have been several fires at the building.
