Concord and capital region firefighters worked for two and half hours in bitter temperatures battling a fire on 1st New Hampshire Turnpike.
NORTHWOOD, NH — A brigade of firefighters from central and eastern New Hampshire as well as the capital region battled bitter cold temperatures and wind in Northwood fighting a barn and house fire Friday.
At 10:15 a.m., capital region dispatch received a call from a homeowner on the 1st New Hampshire Turnpike, also known as Route 202/9, near Jeffrey Drive, reporting fire in their house. The caller told dispatch there was “heavy smoke” in the building, and dispatch told them to evacuate. Along with all of Northwood's firefighters, other firefighters and paramedics from Concord, Epsom, Pittsfield, and Strafford were requested.
Three minutes later, the first Northwood firefighters arrived at the home and reported heavy smoke and fire from an attached barn next to the building.

The Northwood Fire Department requested Deerfield, Durham, and Rochester firefighters to cover the town during the event.
Around 11:30 a.m., a third alarm was struck, sending firefighters from Barnstead and Barrington and tankers from Candia and Loudon to assist and cover Northwood.
About an hour later, firefighters reported to dispatch that everyone was out of the house, but firefighters were still working on extinguishing the barn fire.
The fire was extinguished around 1 p.m. and firefighters began to be released at that time.
