Driver Fails To Stop For Concord Police, Crashes Pickup Truck On Rumford Street
Watch: A driver in a truck with a broken taillight reportedly flees police on North Main Street Saturday morning, then crashes the pickup.
CONCORD, NH — Concord police are investigating an early morning crash on Rumford Street Saturday.
Just before 1 a.m., an officer on patrol on North Main Street attempted to stop a pickup truck for a taillight that was out. The pickup truck driver refused to stop and sped northbound from the scene. The officer, while calling in the situation to dispatch, estimated the driver was going 50 mph and reported they were turning onto Franklin Street and then North State Street.
A watch commander advised the officer they could stop following the truck if the incident was just a violation. The officer replied they were pulling over on North State Street and reported the truck turned onto Church Street and traveled west.

Officers headed to the scene. The initial reporting officer arrived first and said they were out with two or three people, holding them at gunpoint, according to scanner chatter. One person may have fled the scene.
Officers later said they detained two, one who was later identified as a girl. An officer at headquarters requested the girl be checked to see if she was OK.
Concord fire and rescue teams arrived around 1:15 a.m. to check on everyone, and police began speaking with witnesses. Firefighters cleared the scene with two people refusing treatment.
The truck was identified as a 1999 Chevrolet 3500 pickup truck owned by one of the people detained. Unitil was also notified about the damage to the utility pole. Officers canvassed the area, searching for either another person who fled the crash scene or evidence.
Utility workers arrived around 2 a.m. to work on the pole, and a tow truck was requested to remove the truck.
The owner of the truck, who was reportedly intoxicated, was released to a sober party with a Vermont identification, according to scanner chatter.
