CONCORD, NH — On Sunday, weather forecasters with the National Weather Service were predicting up to 6 inches of snow in central and southern New Hampshire.

On Tuesday, they downgraded accumulations to 1 to 4 inches. Then, on Wednesday morning, forecasters raised their predictions up and offered an even wider spread of potential snow accumulation.

How much snow will New Hampshire get? That is unknown. What is known is that heavy, wet snow and sleet are coming to the state.

Around 4 a.m. on Wednesday, a winter storm warning was issued for New Hampshire, running from 2 p.m. on Wednesday to 8 p.m. on Thursday. During that 30-hour period, anywhere from 5 to 15 inches of snow is expected in Concord and the capital region, with sleet accumulations around one and a half inches. Wind gusts were expected to be higher than previously predicted — up to 55 mph.

Accompanying weather maps, however, put the snow totals at somewhere between 4 and 20 inches for Concord.

In Nashua, western Hillsborough County, and western Rockingham County, forecasters are calling for 4 to 8 inches of snow in text. On their maps, it could be a dusting to 16 inches.

On the Seacoast, 2 to 4 inches of snow were expected in text. But on forecast maps, it could be no snow to 12 inches.

Some parts of the North Country could receive more than 30 inches of snow, according to forecasters.

AccuWeather.com, in its latest forecast post and maps, shows 1 to 6 inches in the southeastern and the Seacoast areas of the state, while central New Hampshire could get 6 to 12 inches.

A flood watch was issued for the Seacoast on Thursday morning due to high tide, storm surge, and “large battering waves,” according to an alert.

“A snowstorm will bring plowable snow to the region with a period of moderate travel impacts expected,” the alert stated. “The combination of heavy, potentially wet snow and strong winds will lead to snapped branches and downed trees, resulting in power outages. Significant snowfall and periods of heavy snowfall rates will combine with low visibility to create very dangerous driving conditions.”

The Wednesday night, Thursday morning, and Thursday afternoon commutes were expected to be “very dangerous.”
