Epsom, Regional Firefighters Tackle House Fire On Center Hill Road

Video: Fire and rescue teams were sent to the fire on Sunday night; commander says a tripping breaker in an attic may have caused the fire.

EPSOM, NH — The Epsom Fire Department is investigating the cause of a house fire that went to two alarms Sunday evening.

At just after 5 p.m., Capital Region Fire Dispatch sent firefighters from across the region to Center Hill Road for a fire report. The caller reported a fire in a closet upstairs in the home.

“We could hear alarms in the background,” dispatch said.

Engines from Allenstown, Chichester, Pembroke, Pittsfield, and Concord’s Tower 1 were all requested to the scene.

The first arriving fire commander confirmed a working fire in a one-and-a-half-story home and requested Unitil be sent to the scene. Around 5:15 p.m., the commander reported the house was clear and requested a second alarm. The second alarm brought more engines from Concord, Deerfield, Loudon, and Northwood, tankers from Bow and Pittsfield, and EMTs from Pembroke. Firefighters also shut down the road and tapped Center Hill Brook as a water source.

At the first 20-minute mark, Capital Region Fire Dispatch began lining up mutual aid units to assist with coverage.

Unitil showed up to cut power to the house around 6:15 p.m.

Just past 6:30 p.m., a fire commander reported no fire in the wood stove or fireplace, but the breakers tripped. According to scanner chatter, the homeowner checked the breakers and then went to the attic, where the breaker was tripping, and found it filled with smoke.

Just after the fourth 20-minute mark, the fire commander said the fire was under control, but they would be there for “an extensive period of time” for overhaul.
