Escapee From Calumet Transitional Housing Unit Caught: NHSP

CONCORD, NH — A transitional housing unit inmate, who was placed on escape status on Sunday, has been captured. George Whitfield Johnson, 26, a convicted burglary, was arrested by Manchester police on Tuesday while walking on Douglas Street. According to New Hampshire State Police, investigators from the major crime unit and the investigative bureau of the New Hampshire Department of Corrections obtained information that Johnson was in the Queen City.

While trying to track him down in Manchester, investigators spotted him on Granite Street. A short time later, he was arrested on Douglas Street, a few blocks away.

Johnson was charged on June 25, 2019, with felony escape. He will be arraigned at a later date.

According to the NH DOC, Johnson was sentenced to prison on felony burglary and drug charges in 2018. He would have been eligible for parole in July.
