Fire Chief: More than 60 Acres Scorched in Brush Fire

Teams continue to work the scene to keep West Concord fire contained; cause of the blaze is still unknown.

Concord Fire and Rescue teams as well as crews from the Loudon and Webster and the State Division of Forest and Lands are continuing to “mop up” the huge brushfire in West Concord that spread across more than 60 acres of land, according to Concord Fire Chief Dan Andrus.

Andrus said in a statement this morning that forestry crews monitored the fire last night and were able to keep it contained. Currently, he said, 16 firefighters are working to extinguish what’s left of the fire which is primarily on conservation land at Marjory Swope Park and around Penacook Lake.

“Forestry personnel have determined that over 60 acres have been consumed by the fire,” Andrus said. “Concord Fire investigators and Forest and Lands rangers have begun their investigation into the fire’s cause.”

Andrus said he would be issuing another report this afternoon with more details.
