UPDATED: Helicopter Assisting at Concord Brush Fire

Firefighters have been in West Concord since 1:30 p.m. battling a six alarm brush fire in the popular city park.

Concord’s entire firefighting team is at Long Pond Road and Lake View Drive tackling a brush fire in Majory Swope Park.

Firefighters were sent to the scene around 1:30 p.m. on May 4, 2015, when fire was reported along the logging road between the park and the city’s water reservoir.

A command station has been set up at the entrance of the logging road.

Smoke could be seen billowing up from the northern part of the park and not dissipating until District 5 Road.

A second alarm was called at around 1:50 p.m. with mutual aid units being called in from Allenstown, Boscawen, Bow, Canterbury, Chichester, Epsom, Hooksett, Hopkinton, Loudon, Pembroke, and other communities. All radio traffic has been put on hold and more dispatchers are being called in to assist. A third alarm was called at just after 2 p.m.

The fire quickly went to six alarms during the course of the next hour and was reportedly burning up to seven acres, according to scanner chatter.

At 4 p.m., dispatch ordered an evacuation of all firefighters battling the brush fire.

At a bit past 5 p.m., fire dispatch received a call of a secondary fire on Lake View Drive about 700 feet from District 5 Road. They’ve also requested a helicopter to come in an assist.

This is the second time in two weeks that the city’s firefighting team have been sent to a major fire in West Concord.

At the same time, a three alarm brush fire was also being fought in the Baptist Hill Road area of Canterbury, near Briar Bush Road. That fire was reportedly about three acres.

Other brush fires have been reported in Gilmanton, Jaffrey, and Rochester.
