Fix a Leak: Chance to Win a WaterSense Labeled Toilet

Celebrate Fix A Leak Week - Royal Leak Detection Contest, Twitter Party, & Free Leak Dye Test Kits!

Water leaks can be a royal pain! Leaks can waste a lot of water and can lead to outrageous utility bills. A leaky faucet, toilet, showerhead, or irrigation system may seem harmless, but more than 10,000 gallons of water are wasted each year from leaks in the average household. Find and fix leaks in celebration of EPA WaterSense’s Fix A Leak Week, March 19-25, 2018.

Sometimes leaks can be silent and go undetected until noticing an increase in your water bill. “We’ve had customers shocked when they found out the reason their bill increased so much was from a leaky toilet. Often times higher water bills are a good indicator that there is a leak somewhere,” states Terri Segalini, Fiscal Supervisor for Concord General Services’ Utility Billing Division. Water customers are encouraged to monitor bills and consumption to notice fluctuations.

“Most leaks are easy to fix. Often times, tightening a fixture can be all that is needed,” states Maximilian Royal-Eisenberg, Water Conservation Technician for Concord General Services. “Other times, it’s best to just update old leaky fixtures with newer models. WaterSense labeled products are recommended since they use less water, saving more in the long term.”

In celebration of Fix A Leak Week, Concord General Services is hosting a “Royal Leak Detection” contest. Concord residents can enter the contest by sharing how they find and fix water leaks for a chance to win a free new “throne” (WaterSense labeled toilet). WaterSense labeled products are certified to use at least 20% less water, save energy, and perform as well as (or better than) regular models. The contest prize is a Kohler Elmbrook 1.28 GPF (gallons per flush) white elongated toilet. Residents can enter by submitting a form (available at Concord General Services’ water billing office at 311 North State Street and online at www.concordnh.gov/leaks) or by tagging Concord General Services on Facebook or Twitter @ConcordNHGS with how they find or fix leaks. Residents can double their chance to win by entering the contest both ways! All entries must be received by 5:00 PM on Friday, March 23, 2018.

Join Concord General Services on Twitter @ConcordNHGS on Monday, March 19, 2018 for a #FixALeak Twitter Party from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM to participate in a national conversation on how to find and fix water leaks. Concord General Services is also offering free Toilet Leak Dye Test Kits at their water billing office for residents to perform a quick and easy toilet leak test.
