Franklin Man Dies After I-93 Crash

Joseph Nelson, female passenger thrown from the car; two children not hurt, according to New Hampshire State Police.

Update, 12:32 p.m. WMUR.com is reporting that Nelson has passed away due to the injuries he received in the accident.

A local man is facing a felony charge after he and a female passenger were ejected from a Hyundai sedan during a crash on I-93 North in Canterbury.

Joseph Nelson, 24, of Franklin, was arrested at around 11:45 p.m. on Oct. 12, and charged with driving under the influence, drugs, a felony.

According to the New Hampshire State Police, troopers were called to the accident at just before midnight for a report of a vehicle off the left side of the roadway, partially concealed by trees.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the 2005 Hyundai sedan Nelson was driving left the roadway for some unknown reason,” said Sgt. Maurice Sampson. “The vehicle traveled down an embankment for several hundred feet where it rolled over several times.”

Nelson and a female passenger were thrown from the vehicle and sustained serious injuries, according to troopers at the scene. They were both transported to Concord Hospital with life-threatening injuries. Two children were found unharmed, inside the sedan.

Concord and Boscawen Police officers and Canterbury Fire and Rescue teams, according to a statement, assisted troopers.
