What is GAPP?
GAPP is an acronym for the German American Partnership Program, a family-based cultural and academic exchange that has been in place between Concord High School and the Maximilian Kolbe Gymnasium (high school) in Wegberg, Germany since 1981.
Every other fall (ending in an odd-numbered year) German students visit Concord for one month, living in the homes of the selected CHS students and attending classes at CHS. The following summer, those CHS students travel to Germany and live for one month in Wegberg with their host brother or sister’s family and attend school there.
This program is designed to build understanding and friendship between German and American high school students and their families. It will not only deepen and enhance the participants’ knowledge and appreciation of the host country, but also to enable young people to become more aware of their own culture and values.
Students will improve their language skills, experience another culture as a member of a family, form international friendships, become more globally conscious, and, of course, have fun.
