GoFundMe Set Up For Family Of Children Who Died In I-89 Crash

BOW, NH — A fundraising effort has been set up for the family who lost two children in an SUV accident on Interstate 89 on Friday and local law enforcement, too, are lending support.

On Saturday, Julie Ouellette Barrios set up a GoFundMe effort, Love for the Ouellette Family, after two of their children died in the crash. Nicholas Ouellette, 16, a Bow High School student, and Gavin Ouellette, 6, a Bow Elementary School student died after the SUV they were passengers in crashed into a tractor-trailer truck on the southbound side of the Interstate. Their father, Tom Ouellette, a Bow police officer and the school resource officer in town, was driving the SUV during the crash. He was taken to Concord Hospital with injuries.

“Nicholas has the spirit of an easygoing, funny young man,” she wrote online. “Football and his team were his passion. Spending lots of time with dad and the boys, and loved by his girls deeply — his mom, twin sister (Hannah) and girlfriend Maddie.

Gavin, she added, “has the spirit of happy and funny boy — that smile!” He loved wrestling with his brothers and cuddling with mom, Barrios said.

“He is adored by his older sister and dad — and he loved them all right back with a full heart,” she said.

Tom Ouellette, Barrios said, was a veteran and a police officer while wife Jen is a nurse.

Mike French, the interim Bow police administrator, said the department, selectmen, town manager, and the community were mourning the family’s loss.

“As a public safety servant, Tom is always the first to help anyone in need,” he said. “It is now our turn to help Tom. The department and the entire law enforcement community now stands ready to assist Tom and his family through this tragic event and beyond. The men and woman of the Bow Police Department wish Tom well in his recovery from critical injuries.”

A $150,000 goal has been set for the effort. After seven hours, more than $95,000 had been raised. The money will be used to provide the family financial support so they do not have to worry about going back to work immediately.
