CONCORD, NH — A Penacook man is facing felony charges after being accused of firing a handgun on Village Street and threatening to shoot a member of his family and a companion last month.

Around 11:30 p.m. on Jan. 23, police were sent to Village Street to investigate a threat call.

A man and a woman said they came by to pick up some belongings from an apartment when one of them got into a verbal argument with Hunter Drew, 20, of Village Street in Penacook, outside of the building. Drew, an affidavit said, had a handgun and “started shooting rounds into the air.” The officer claimed the witness said, “while Hunter was doing this, he was yelling that he was going to shoot them.”

Officers set up a perimeter around the building and attempted to find Drew while the reporting officer continued to interview the witnesses.

One of the witnesses said an argument occurred when the woman tried to get a charger and some other items from the apartment. They decided to leave until things cooled off and when they began to leave, a fourth person “came out of nowhere” and began banging on the window of his vehicle, yelling at them to leave. They then left the area.

Not long after, the fourth person was seen driving by them in another car. Thinking that it might be safe to return, the pair went back to the apartment to get their belongings.

When they arrived, they claimed a green laser was pointed at them and accused Drew of pointing a gun at them both.

“According to (one witness), Hunter then yelled, ‘if you don’t leave, I’m going to shoot you,’” the officer wrote. “Hunter then pointed the gun up to the sky and discharged the firearm. Hunter’s arms were extended and he was swaying his arms, pointing the gun at (them) both.”

The gun was described as a Ruger Security 9 mm. The man put his car in reverse and left the area. As they drove away, the man said the green laser was still being pointed at them and he could see it in their rear-view mirror.

The witnesses said they knew the gun model because they had both grown up around weapons.

The officer asked the man why he thought the two men were so confrontational and it was because he got upset by incestuous comments by the men, the report said.

“During a recent trip,” the officer wrote, “(the fourth person) said something to the effect of, ‘Don’t we all look at our cousin’s boobs?’” which upset him.

In another instance, when he and the other man were speaking with a fifth man, who was from Maine, he asked, “What part?” The fifth man said, “the part where you (expletive) your sister and your cousin watches.” The fourth man then said, “Where can I sign up for that?” The victim called him out for being offensive around family members, comments were made about what one woman was wearing, and bad blood between all ensued after that, the affidavit stated.

“(The fourth person) and Hunter then became upset with (the victim) because he wasn’t agreeing with their ‘incest comments,’” the officer wrote. “(The victims) both agreed that this was the cause for the hostility when (they) originally pulled up to the driveway this evening.”

Officers searched the area and did not find the fourth man or his vehicle. They also spoke to another resident who confirmed hearing a single gunshot.

A warrant was issued against Drew and he was arrested later on unauthorized use of a firearm-firecracker, reckless conduct-deadly weapon, and two criminal threatening-deadly weapon charges, and held on preventive detention. He was arraigned in Merrimack County Superior Court on four felony criminal threatening charges on Jan. 24 and released on bail on Feb. 2. Hunter has a dispositional conference hearing on March 29.
