'High' Fire Alert Warning Issued for NH

A statewide Class 3 fire weather alert is underway as the Granite State enters brush fire season.

CONCORD, NH - The state of New Hampshire has issued a statewide Class 3 fire alert for March 30, 2016, a “high” status fire weather warning for New Hampshire, as the state enters brush fire season.

The alert was issued this morning and shared on various and fire alert networks, including the NorthEast Fire Alert Twitter account.

The New Hampshire Division of Forests and Lands noted this morning that partly cloudy to mostly clear skies with temperatures in the 50s and minimum humidity was creating an environment for an elevated designation, despite the recent rain.

“Brisk winds and low humidity will increase the fire danger for most of the State today,” the state noted. “Tomorrow will be warmer with gusty winds, but humidity levels will be higher.”

Yesterday’s blustery winds created a weather climate that is conducive to brush fires – drying conditions on the ground and in wooded areas, with today’s breezy air, without a lot of humidity, offering dryer conditions. Today’s gusts will be lower but still strong enough to spread debris and fire – between 17 and 21 mph.

The NH DFL is also asking everyone to report all outside fires regardless of size today.

Last year was one of the worst seasons on record for brush fires around New Hampshire despite being one of the most brutal winters for snow.

NH Patch will update this post or issue alerts when more information becomes available about brush fire alerts in the state.
