According to police, at just after 1:30 a.m. this morning officers were sent to the Concord Food Co-Op on South Main Street for a report of a disturbance. When they arrived, they spoke with a woman who stated she was taking boxes out to a dumpster when she was approached by a man.

“The male subject first asked if she needed help and when the employee told him no, he began to walk towards her claiming he was a ‘vampire’ and that he could help her,” according to Lt. Timothy O’Malley, the commander of the criminal investigations unit for the Concord Police Department. “The male subject then began to run towards her.”

The woman ran into the store and the man – later identified as May – allegedly pursued her while yelling something she being his wife and he could save her, O’Malley alleged.

“Just touch me, I can save you,” May reportedly stated.

The woman yelled for help, fell to the ground, and May allegedly grabbed her and wrapped her in his arms, according to the report. Another worker arrived and May allegedly attempted to punch him and started a fight, knocking over a display case. The second employee told May to leave but he allegedly refused and continued to engage the second employee, according to O’Malley.

The second employee then took out a box cutter, according to police, and threatened May, telling him to leave, and he reportedly ran through the store and into a walk-in freezer. The employee attempted to lock him inside but May allegedly forced his way out and pinned the employee to the ground, attempting to grab the box cutter. Police arrived and detained both men and after investigating the incident, arrested May.

“Once the scene was under control, Jacob told an officer that he was a ‘vampire, ghost rider, Capt. Jack Sparrow from Pirates of the Caribbean, Mr. Miyagi from the Karate Kid, and a leader of a band,’ in addition to other comments,” O’Malley stated. “The officer observed that it was apparent that Jacob was under the influence of some alcohol or drugs or combination thereof.”

While at the scene, police learned of a previous alleged incident from Nov. 6, reportedly involving a man matching May’s description, following a woman on Clinton Street. They later found the man and identified him as May.

“It was evident to officers at the time that Jacob was under the influence of either drugs or alcohol,” O’Malley said. “Jacob had stated that he had some combination of marijuana, alcohol, methamphetamine, and spice in his system at the time.”

May was arrested at that time and charged with prowling and issued a summons. He was then placed into protective custody.

May will be arraigned later today.
