Hooksett Man Accused Of Suffocating Cat After Argument
Jose Castro was arrested Thursday on felony animal cruelty and criminal mischief charges after an incident on Mammoth Road.

HOOKSETT, NH — A Hooksett man is facing charges after being accused of suffocating a cat after a domestic argument Thursday.
Officers were sent to an apartment building on Mammoth Road to take a report about a domestic incident that occurred between a couple over the phone, according to Sgt. Mike Zappala of the Hooksett Police Department.
"When officers arrived, both subjects were now at the residence and information was obtained that a cat might have been killed prior to the girlfriend returning to the apartment," he said.

The suspect was identified as Jose Castro, 30, of Mammoth Road in Hooksett. Zappala said Castro "initially denied any wrongdoing" but later, admitted to suffocating his girlfriend's cat "due to being upset regarding the argument." The cat was located by officers in a nearby dumpster outside of the apartment building.
Castro was arrested on felony animal cruelty and domestic violence-criminal mischief charges. He was booked, processed, and released on personal recognizance bail and is due back in Merrimack County Superior Court on Feb. 18, 2021.
