Huge NH Women’s Day of Action and Unity Rally Held in Concord: Photos
Runners, winter carnival revelers also raise money for White Park playground project during Ugly Sweater 5K.
CONCORD, NH — While many of the politerati have noted that the election of President Barack Obama in 2008 led to the opposition Tea Party movement as well as Republicans sweeping into power in the House of Representatives in 2010 and taking control of the Senate in 2014, the inauguration of President Donald Trump has clearly re-activated the other side of the political aisle. More than 2,000 people were expected to attend today’s NH Women’s Day of Action & Unity in Concord on Jan. 21, 2017, and while official attendance numbers weren’t available at post time, it was easily one of the largest rallies held at the Statehouse in recent memory.
The rally – part of a national day of action in the wake of Trump being inaugurated as the 45th president yesterday and the 44th anniversary of the Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision – featured liberal speakers and activists calling for political action against the new Republican president.
Just after the beginning of the Statehouse rally, runners participated in White Park’s Ugly Sweater 5K and winter carnival, a benefit to raise money for the Monkey Around playground, organized by the Friends of White Park. Runners donned their ugliest sweaters and raced through the West End of the city and back around to White Street.
