Hundreds Participate in AmeriCorps Day of Service
Effort marked 20th anniversary of the organization.
AmeriCorps programs across the state came together with the Corporation for National and Community Service on March 14, for a day of service to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of AmeriCorps. The corps members fixed bicycles, sorted clothing, cleaned parks…
Throughout 2014, AmeriCorps programs across the country will be acknowledging the more than 1 billion hours served by national service members since its founding in 1994. In this year alone there are more than 200 AmeriCorps members serving across New Hampshire.
AmeriCorps VISTA and AmeriCorps State Programs with City Year, AmeriCorps Victims Assistance Program, the Student Conservation Association, and the Granite State Education Corps came together to celebrate the country’s commitment to service by participating in service projects at various nonprofit organizations in Concord, NH. Some of the organizations that benefitted from the day of service include: Families in Transition, New Hampshire Audubon, AARP NH, and nearly a dozen more nonprofits.

AmeriCorps members gathered at the NH Technical Institute (NHTI) for a 9 a.m. kick-off ceremony. Members heard from their peers in the different programs as they shared stories of how national service has impacted their personal and professional development. State officials also shared remarks at this morning gathering.
Members then served at their assigned nonprofit site from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. They then visited the NH State House for a tour of the building and a reception focused on raising awareness about national service in our state.
