I-89 Crash Takes Life of Connecticut Woman

Colby-Sawyer College student Melissa Molin of West Hartford passed away at Concord Hospital after an accident during yesterday's storm.

CONCORD, NH - New Hampshire State Police have released the name of the woman who perished in an accident I-89 on April 4, 2016, the closed the highway down for a short period of time during yesterday’s clipper storm.

Melissa Molin, 21, of West Hartford, CT, passed away after her Chevrolet Trailblazer crashed in a median on the highway while she was on her way to Colby-Sawyer College in New London to attend classes.

The accident occurred, according to state police, at just before 3:45 p.m. near Mile Marker 25 in Sutton during the middle of yesterday's snowstorm. Sutton Police were assisted by troopers “attempting to render aid to the driver, who was seriously injured and trapped inside her vehicle,” according to Sgt. Ron Taylor of the NHSP.

“They provided first aid to her, the vehicle’s lone occupant, pending the arrival of New London and Sutton Fire Departments,” Taylor said in a statement. “EMS crews were eventually able to extricate the driver from her seriously damaged 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer.”

Molin was transported to Concord Hospital where she died as a result of her injuries, according to state police. The highway was closed for about two hours during the extraction effort.

Molin, according to the school, “was a psychology major working to realize her dreams of becoming a counselor, and she was a member of the swimming and diving team.” Counselors were made available today for staff and students who were friends of Molin. The school’s flag was also lowered to half-staff in her honor.

“The college community extends our deepest sympathies to Melissa’s family and many friends as they try to come to terms with this devastating loss,” the communications office stated online.
