Inmate Walks Away from Transitional Housing Unit

The New Hampshire Department of Corrections announced that a work release-minimum security inmate walked away from the Calumet Transitional Housing Unit in Manchester, New Hampshire on Dec. 15.

David Allen Ward, 47, of Keene, was given permission to leave the facility at approximately 2 p.m. to apply for jobs but he failed to return at 4 p.m. as expected. He was placed on walkaway status at approximately 6:45 p.m.

Inmate Ward is described as a white male, 5 foot 7 inches tall, 229 pounds, with blue eyes and brown hair. He has tattoos on his left shoulder and upper left arm and multiple scars on his legs.

He is serving a four to eight year sentence for reckless conduct out of Cheshire County Superior Court. He began serving this sentence on Jan. 3, 2011, and was eligible for parole on May 9, 2015. This sentence will end on May 8, 2019.

The New Hampshire Department of Corrections Investigations Bureau and the New Hampshire State Police are investigating. A walkaway is considered an escape, which is a Class B felony punishable by 3 1/2 to 7 years in prison.
