K-9 Unit Helps Rescue Person with Life-Threatening Injuries in Bow

After police were sent to a local business for a disoriented person who later, became lost, "Roxie" was called in to assist.

BOW, NH — A local K-9 Unit is being heralded by police for assisting with the investigation of a person experiencing altered behavior who later, became lost, according to police. On April 5, 2017, Bow Police were sent to a local business for a report of a person “experiencing altered behavior and confusion.” The person fled the area before police arrived, according to Sgt. Art Merrigan of the Bow Police Department.

After officers search the area for about an hour, Roxie and an officer responded to the scene to help.

“As the search area expanded, officers, using video surveillance from a local business, were able to determine a last known location for the person,” Merrigan stated. “K9 Roxie obtained a track from that location and was able to locate the person in a thickly wooded area surrounded by several merging streams.”

Due to the rain and melted snow, streams in the area were "full and running fast," presenting a challenge to officers, he noted. They were able, however, to reach the person, who was suffering from life-threatening injuries, they immediately began first-aid measures while waiting for more assistance, Merrigan noted.

Bow Fire and Rescue teams and a New Hampshire state trooper also assisted in carrying the person out of the woods. They were transported to Concord Hospital for treatment. Merrigan noted that police were unaware of the patient’s current condition but were grateful for the assist by Roxie.
