Tanka Bastola, 35, of Concord, was arrested at 4:50 p.m. on April 9, and charged with two counts of simple assault and obstructing the report of a crime or injury. Officers were called to an apartment on Ormond Street for a domestic disturbance with a nurse’s assistant telling them that it was between a couple fighting. The parties were separated with one officer noting that the woman had “scratches on her hands” and “had allegedly been strangled,” showing scratches on her neck. The woman stated that Bastola allegedly entered the home intoxicated and began yelling at the nurse about following his rules in his home. He then allegedly began yelling at her about communicating with a Nepalese man via Facebook while the nurse moved their child out of the area. “Tanka said he had been drinking during the day and that he would continue to drink that night and kill her,” she alleged to the officer. During the altercation, she alleged that Bastola locked her in the kitchen and grabbed her by the neck. Bastola had beaten her “many times during their marriage,” she alleged, and showed a scar from a cigarette lighter burn. The nurse reported hearing the two argue and saw the fresh wounds on the woman but didn’t see the alleged assault. She alleged that the wife “had to ask permission to use her cellphone” and Bastola took her phone and wouldn’t let her call police. “It appear that (she) had to ask permission to do most tasks, probably as a result of their culture,” the officer noted. Bastola was arrested and charged and “began to sob uncontrollably” and “kept stating that he was innocent.” He’s due in court on June 2.
