Loudon Woman on Probation Charged with Theft

Concord Police: Kelsey McCarthy stole items from Walmart.

A local woman was held on cash bail recently after a theft charge at the Walmart on Loudon Road.

Kelsey Shea McCarthy, 23, of Loudon, was arrested at 7:35 p.m. on April 24, and charged with theft from the store on April 19.

According to a court affidavit, an officer was sent to Walmart for a report of a theft with a red Honda fleeing the area. The officer saw the Honda turn into the Mobil gas station on Loudon Road on the way to the store. The officer saw a woman driving and checked the license plate and the car was McCarthy’s.

The officer continued to Walmart to speak with store employees who alleged that McCarthy was in the store and stole items previously. One of the employees knew her when she reportedly worked at Dick’s Sporting Goods as a cashier, so they were keeping an eye on her.

On this particular day, the employees tracked McCarthy around the store and allegedly saw her put some cosmetics in her jacket pocket. Later, she allegedly took a Boston Red Sox baby “onesie” and concealed it in jacket. She then allegedly put on a No Boundary shirt over her under shirt and then put her jacket on. She allegedly took the tag off the shirt and threw it on the floor, according to the report.

The employee reported to the officer that McCarthy then paid for a $3.88 shirt, put $25 on a debit card, and left the store, allegedly failing to pay for the other items.

One of the employees attempted to make contact with her in the parking lot but she allegedly refused to stop, walked to her Honda, and left.

The officer attempted to call McCarthy at home but she never called back, according to the report. Her father called the officer and stated that she had receipts to prove she purchased the items. He said she would come in to talk to the officer but never did. The officer later received a call from McCarthy’s attorney about the case.

The officer reported that he viewed surveillance video at the store and couldn’t see her concealing the items, only the employees saw the alleged thefts. The officer noted though that McCarthy allegedly came into the store wearing one shirt under her jacket and left wearing another shirt under her jacket.

“I found that Kelsey is currently on probation,” the officer noted, “she also has 3 1/2 to 7 years suspended for ten years since November 2013 for a sale of a controlled drug charge.”

The affidavit was signed filed on April 24, and she was arrested later that day.

McCarthy was held on $5,000 cash bail and arraigned on April 25.

According to press Patch arrest report, in January of last year, McCarthy was charged with five counts of sale of controlled drugs, and criminal liability for the conduct of another, all felonies, after allegedly selling drugs on Fisherville Road, the case she received a suspended sentence for.

In May 2013, she was charged with five counts of default or breach of bail conditions connected to incidents at Dick’s Sporting Goods and the New Hampshire State Prison.
