At just before 10:15 p.m. last night, New Hampshire State Police were alerted to a report of a pickup truck with Maine plates fleeing a traffic stop in Antrim. Police in that community initially stopped the vehicle for speeding on Route 9 but the vehicle fled the area, traveling west from Route 9, onto Route 202/9, and then I-89, according to a report.

“Antrim Police requested State Police assistance as the vehicle traveled west on Route 202/9 at speeds in excess of 100 mph,” according to Staff Sgt. Charles Johnston of the NHSP. “Antrim Police maintained control of the pursuit as troopers joined in and assisted as it entered Interstate 89 southbound from Exit 5. The vehicle continued southbound and was operating recklessly, passing vehicles in the right breakdown lane at over 100 mph.”

The vehicle allegedly attempted to take the Exit 2 exit when it lost control, struck two delineator posts, and a guardrail, where it eventually stopped in the snow on the right side of the roadway. The driver – later identified as Young – allegedly fled on foot into the woods.
