Man Arrested After Striking Pedestrian on South Main Street

Anthony Landry has been charged with aggravated DWI.

A Concord man is facing a DWI charge after allegedly hitting a pedestrian on South Main Street, sending the person to the hospital.

Anthony Landry, 36, of Concord, was arrested and charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated.

According to a Concord Police press statement, at around 1:30 p.m. on Jan. 29, police were called to the area of South Main and Fayette streets for a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle.

Upon arrival officers discovered that a woman had been struck by a motor vehicle and had sustained serious injuries, according to Lt. John Thomas, a watch commander with the department. The victim was taken directly to Concord Hospital for treatment by fire and rescue teams.

Witnesses stated that she was thrown as much as 20 or 30 feet from the area of impact. One witness reported that the man allegedly “didn’t stop at all” for the pedestrian before hitting her in the road. Many people reportedly stopped to help the woman before fire and police arrived.

The driver, Landry, was thought to have been “under the influence of prescription medications at the time of the accident,” according to Thomas. He was issued field sobriety tests and was arrested.

The victim’s injuries were serious, according to police, but she is in stable condition and being treated at the hospital. Police are still investigating the incident.

Landry was released on $10,000 personal recognizance bail and is due in court on Feb. 10.
