Mass. Man Charged After Fatal Crash In Dunbarton NH

Stephan Buckley of Andover, MA, faces vehicular assault, negligent driving, other charges after a crash that took the life of a local man.

DUNBARTON, NH — After a multi-month investigation into a fatal crash at the intersection of Concord Stage Road and Stark Highway in Dunbarton, a Bay State man been arrested on numerous charges, according to police. Stephan Buckley, 55, of Andover, MA, was arrested on May 25, 2017, and charged with vehicular assault, simple assault, negligent driving, speeding, and failure to stop at a stop sign. Back on March 11, officers and fire and rescue teams were sent to Page’s Corner, the intersection of Route 77 and Route 13, for a report of a two-vehicle crash with injury, according to Sgt. Chris Remillard of the Dunbarton Police Department.

“An investigation revealed that Buckley was speeding and ran a stop sign before crashing into a Toyota RAV4 being operated by Mike Whittier of Dunbarton,” Remillard alleged. “Buckley was traveling eastbound on Concord Stage Road towards Clinton Street in his Ford F-250 and crashed into Whittier who was crossing northbound through the intersection toward Jewett Road.”

Whittier sustained broken ribs and a ruptured spleen during the crash and passed away eight days later, “from complications arising from injuries sustained in the crash,” Remillard alleged.

Buckley turned himself in to police after a warrant was issued for his arrest. He was released on personal recognizance bail and is due back in Concord District Court on July 10.

Whittier, according to his obituary, was 60, was a graduate of Weare High School, worked for nearly two decades as a groundskeeper at St. Paul’s School in Concord, and had a great sense of humor, according to his family.
