MCMS Student Selected by National Youth Orchestra
Manchester Community Music School Student Roric Cunningham Invited to Join the National Youth Orchestra of the United States of America

Seventeen-year-old Manchester native, Roric Cunningham has been invited to be a member of the National Youth Orchestra of the United States of America.
Each summer, Carnegie Hall’s Weill Music Institute brings together the brightest young players from across the country to form the National Youth Orchestra of the United States. Students undergo a very extensive and competitive audition process to be selected for this honor. Selected participants then come together for a three-week training residency with leading professional orchestra musicians.
This summer, NYO-USA returns to Asia under the direction of Michael Tilson Thomas and pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet, performing a new Carnegie Hall-commissioned work by Ted Hearne alongside works by Sibelius and Gershwin. The tour kicks off with the orchestra’s annual concert at Carnegie Hall, continuing with stops in Taipei, Shanghai, Beijing, Seoul, and Daejeon.

Rory has been a student at the Music School studying cello under the direction of Harel Gietheim since 2012. He is also a member of the Dino Anagnost Youth Symphony Orchestra.
The Manchester Community Music School is located in historic north Manchester. As a non-profit organization, the school dedicated to supporting the artistic development of the community through a variety of programs and classes both in-house and off-site.
