BOSCAWEN, NH — For decades, the Merrimack County Sheriff’s Office has been a supportive partner of the New Hampshire Special Olympics, including volunteering at the summer games held at the University of New Hampshire and the winter games held at Waterville Valley Resort, as well as organizing participation for the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run.

The mission of the Law Enforcement Torch Run is to raise awareness and funds for the Special Olympics organization. During the torch run, “guardians of the flame,” both law enforcement members and Special Olympic athletes, carry the torch as a symbol of courage and celebration of diversity.

This year, on the 40th anniversary of the Law Enforcement Torch Run, members of the Merrimack County Sherriff’s Office, Merrimack County Department of Corrections, Merrimack County Attorney’s Office, and the Merrimack County Advocacy Center successfully ran their leg of the journey — a 12.2 mile run from Boscawen to Concord.
