Minivan Crashes On Fort Eddy Road After Driver Refused Alcohol
Watch: A man was arrested Thursday after he reportedly drove into a utility pole near Market Basket, knocking down a transformer.
CONCORD, NH — A man with a lengthy record is facing more charges after being accused of drunken driving again – and crashing his vehicle into a utility pole on Fort Eddy Road. At just before 11 p.m., Concord dispatch shared information with officers about a customer at a Loudon Road gas station being refused an alcohol sale. A customer who was in the store at the time of the refusal reported to police that the man appeared "very disheveled" and intoxicated, left the store in a black minivan, and headed eastbound on Loudon Road.
The caller worried that the man might be driving while intoxicated. The vehicle had New Hampshire plate and was registered in Northfield, according to dispatch.
Thirteen minutes later, dispatch reported a crash between a minivan and a utility pole on Fort Eddy Road – involving the same van that reportedly left the gas station on Loudon Road after being refused service.

According to a second witness, the utility pole had a transformer on it and wires were in the road. The witness, who stayed in the area until officers arrived, reported that it appeared the male driver was trying to leave the scene but probably wouldn't be getting far because he was wearing flipflops, and heading toward the Market Basket parking lot.
Concord firefighters were also called to the accident scene.

About 12 minutes later, officers arrived at the parking lot and took the suspect into custody while they figured out what happened. He was then transported to police headquarters.

Unitil was also notified about the pole and the wires in the road and arrived later.
Concord NH Patch will update this post after receiving official confirmation of the man's name and his charges.
