Moose Collisions Reported in NH North Country

NHSP: Three separate motor vehicle accidents occurred within three hours of each other; troopers say, "please slow down."

CONCORD, NH - The New Hampshire State Police are reminding residents and visitors to the Granite State to drive slowly in the North Country after three moose collisions on Friday night, all within three hours of each other.

According to an alert, Troop F troopers were sent to Route 2 in Randolph at just after 7 p.m. on May 20, 2016, after a 1991 Toyota with a single male driver struck a moose in the road. A second collision occurred at around 9:30 p.m. after two vehicle struck a moose on I-93 in Sugar Hill. The third collision – at just before 10 p.m. – occurred with a 2009 Dodge Caravan, with an elderly driver and passenger, struck a moose on Route 110 North.

Troop F issued an alert on May 22, reminding motorists that wildlife – including deer and moose – will often be in the middle of roadways at all hours of the day and night. During the evening, the wildlife can also be difficult to see.

“Each of the involved vehicles was heavily damaged in the collisions and luckily there were only minor injuries reported in each of these cases,” according to Sgt. Victory Muzzey of the NHSP. “Please slow down, be sure your vehicle is equipped with adequate lighting, and arrive to your destination safely.”
