More Light Snow, Single Digit Temperatures Coming To New Hampshire

Traffic may be slippery on Friday night. Forecasters also believe most of New Hampshire will have a white Christmas this year.

CONCORD, NH — Chilly temperatures, freezing rain, and snow are returning to the Granite State this weekend.

After light snow and a slippery Thursday morning commute, forecasters expect the sun to return, leading to highs in the upper 30s. Wind gusts could be as high as 25 mph. Skies will be cloudy overnight with temps in the low 20s.

There is a chance of snow showers on Friday afternoon and evening, with temps in the upper 20s and lower 30s. Overnight lows will drop down into the teens.

The probability of a white Christmas is historically between 50 and 100 percent for New Hampshire, a projection based on three-decade averages in snow accumulation, temperatures, and other climatological data.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s white Christmas probability calculations represent exact science. But they don’t always match the reality on the ground or what current forecasting models suggest for New Hampshire.

Portsmouth has a 51 percent chance of having at least 1 inch of snow, while Salem and Nashua have 57 and 58 percent, respectively. Concord has a 63 percent chance of a white Christmas. Percentages rise from there based on elevation and distance from the central part of the state.
