Mountain Road Crash Leads to Felony Charge
Concord Police: Wayne Hicks allegedly hid spice in a laundry hamper after a crash that sent three to the hospital.

An Allenstown man is facing driving while intoxicated and habitual offender charges in March after a car crash earlier this month.
According to a Concord Police arrest report, at around 1 p.m. on Feb. 11, an officer was sent to Mountain Road for an accident that included a possible child entrapped in the car and a vehicle fire. The officer reportedly observed a Dodge and Ford next to each other with heavy damage on the front-ends of both vehicles. Concord Fire and Rescue teams were also called to the scene. A woman and her two children in the Dodge were transported to Concord Hospital.
The officer spoke to two people from the Ford, including Wayne Aaron Hicks, 28, about who was driving the car. The passenger of the vehicle reported that he was driving the car and allegedly started sliding while on the road, slid across the lane, and reportedly hit the Dodge.

Another officer though was speaking with other witnesses who alleged that Hicks was actually driving. One witness allegedly saw Hicks hide items in a laundry hamper that was on the side of the road after the accident.
“Hicks initially claimed that he was not hiding anything,” the officer wrote, adding “inside the box were two smoking devices with burnt residue. An open package of spice was also observed.”

The passenger who claimed to be the driver passed field sobriety tests, according to the report, and was not charged.
Dispatch later advised that a call had been placed to the police claiming that Hicks was operating a vehicle on Mountain Road and was operating under suspension. The tipster was called and that person alleged that Hicks was operating the vehicle when it left a Mountain Road address earlier in the day with “an unknown male sleeping” in the car.
Later, after talking with the officers, Hicks allegedly admitted that he was driving the vehicle at the time of the crash. He was given a field sobriety test and later arrested.
Hicks’ probation officer requested a 72-hour hold on Hicks. He was later released on $5,000 personal recognizance bail and had two summons issued to him for yellow line violation and speeding.
Hicks is due in court for arraignment on March 11.
Hicks has reportedly been involved in a number of other incidents.
In July 2001, Concord Police arrested and charged him with simple assault (personal weapons) and criminal threatening (intimidation, etc.).
In September 2009, Hicks was arrested after allegedly crashing his car in the woods in Portsmouth. Police alleged that he was traveling 85 to 100 mph before the accident. Hicks was charged with disobeying an officer, resisting arrest or detention, reckless operation, misuse or failure to display plates, unregistered motor vehicle and driving after suspension/revocation.
