Muddy Trail Leads To Massachusetts Man's Hiking Injury In New Hampshire

CONCORD, NH — A man from Massachusetts was injured while hiking in the White Mountains of New Hampshire on Sunday, according to Fish and Game.

Around noon, officials received a report about an injured hiker on the Greeley Ponds Trail via 911 text. The man, 35, sustained injuries after falling on wet and slippery mud along the trail, Sgt. Heidi Murphy, of New Hampshire Fish & Game, said.

“At the time of the fall, he was carrying his young son in an attempt to cross a wooden board section of the trail,” she said. “Unfortunately, he lost his balance and fell, causing serious non-life-threatening injuries. His son was uninjured.”

Murphy said a Good Samaritan passing by used her cell phone to send a rescue text to 911 and request assistance. Conservation officers and volunteers with the Pemigewasset Valley Search and Rescue Team hiked about half a mile to the location of the injured man, Michael Kelly of Foxborough, MA. They stabilized his injuries and assisted him back to the trailhead. At just past 2 p.m., a Campton-Thornton ambulance team took Kelly to Concord Hospital for treatment.
