Nashua Man Charged After Hit-And-Run in Concord

Police: Shane Hirth allegedly fled the scene of a crash near the Steeplegate Mall in January.

A Nashua man is facing charges after allegedly crashing into a car on D’Amante Drive in Concord and fleeing the scene.

Shane Hirth, 23, of Nashua, was arrested at 11:45 a.m. on Jan. 24, and charged with conduct after an accident and driving after revocation or suspension.

According to a Concord arrest report and court affidavit, an officer was called to the intersection of Loudon Road and D’Amante Drive at around 12:30 p.m. on Jan. 7, for a report of a hit-and-run accident. A Ford Taurus was facing west in the intersection with a crushed rear end but there were no injuries from the crash.

According to witnesses, the Ford was stopped at the red light traveling west on Loudon Road in the right hand side left-hand turn lane at the intersection with D’Amante Drive. Another car was westbound in the right straight lane. The witness was westbound approaching the intersection in the left westbound straight lane. Another car was traveling westbound in the right westbound straight lane. That car moved to the left in front of the witness and into the same lane as the Ford, rear-ending the car that was stopped at the light. The car then backed up and drove west on the eastbound side of Loudon Road, crossed a median, and then continued west on the westbound side of Loudon Road.

The car that reportedly fled the area left green paint and an imprint of some license numbers on the bumper of the Ford, according to police, and a bulletin was put out for information about the car. Despite sending a number of cruisers to the east side of the city looking for the fleeing vehicle, police were unable to find it.

The next day, a detective and the officer went to the wrecker service to look at the bumper of the Ford in order to get a better look at the imprint.

“We were able to look more closely and actually remove a piece of the rear bumper cover of the Ford,” the officer reported.

They reportedly found two holes consistent with the mounting bolts of the front bumper as well as green paint and number images similar to a New Hampshire license plate. The detective took pictures and secured the bumper as evidence, while dusting it with a gel lift to get the as many numbers as they could.

Eventually, they were able to get all six numbers from the plate and then searched the NH DMV records. The officer found that the license was connected to a 1999 Honda Accord in Nashua.

Police called the owner and left a message and the woman later called the officer back leaving a message the next day that her son, Hirth, had the car during the time of the accident. The woman told police she didn’t know he had taken the car since she was sleeping but received a call from him around 1 p.m. on the day in question stating he had been in an accident and injured his knee. The woman stated in the message that she hadn’t heard from her son since the call and he had not returned home.

A search of Hirth by police turned up active warrants as well as a license suspension from July 2, 2013, for default on a court summons. The officer later spoke to the woman again and found out that Hirth was arrested and bailed out of the Valley Street Jail in Manchester on Jan. 10. His mother, however, didn’t know what happened to him after that.

A warrant was taken out for his arrest on Jan. 18. Hirth was arrested on Jan. 24, and held without bail. He was arraigned the next day.

According to online reports, Hirth has been arrested a number of times during the last few years.

The Nashua Telegraph reported last month that Hirth was arrested on Jan. 29, in Hudson, and charged with criminal mischief (vandalism), theft, attempt to commit credit card fraud, and bench warrant.

In December 2012, he was arrested and charged with receiving stolen property, and in September 2009, he was arrested and charged with burglary, attempt to commit a burglary, in Nashua, according to The Lowell Sun.
