New Program from NHTI Targets Healthcare Shortage
NHTI—Concord's Community College will launch a new certificate program this fall entitled Limited X-Ray Machine Operator (LXMO).
Spurred by workforce needs in urgent care facilities throughout New Hampshire, NHTI—Concord’s Community College will launch a new certificate program this fall entitled Limited X-Ray Machine Operator (LXMO).
“For 60 years, NHTI has delivered on New Hampshire’s workforce needs,” said Dr. Patrick Tompkins, president of NHTI-Concord’s Community College. “The LXMO is one of several recent additions to our wide range of industry-driven programs.”
The college designed this program—and others like it—to offer students multiple professional certification opportunities within one area of study. The goal is to ensure every graduate can earn a valuable degree, no matter how many semesters they choose to enroll in.

The 3-semester LXMO program will prepare graduates to sit for the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certificate exam. Once nationally certified, the graduate will then be eligible to obtain a state license through the New Hampshire Office of Professional Licensure and Certification.
“Radiology programs and their graduates are in high demand in our healthcare system,” said Amy VonKadich, chair of NHTI’s Department of Health Professions. “This one-year certificate is a triple win, as it provides a shorter on-ramp to impactful employment in the radiology field, alleviates acute workforce needs at facilities across our state, and creates a pipeline of well-prepared entrants to the associate degree Radiologic Technology program.”
