NH AG, NHSP At Officer Involved Shooting In Belmont

Audio: After a check of a suspect at the Irving on Route 106, an officer reportedly shoots a man who had active warrants.

BELMONT, NH — The New Hampshire Attorney General’s Office has been called to an officer involved shooting in Belmont this afternoon, according to reports on Twitter. Limited information is known at post time but according to scanner chatter, the officer called in information about a suspect to dispatch who he knew had active warrants at the Irving gas station off Route 106 and Plummer Hill Road at around 2:30 p.m. on Sept. 30, 2017. The officer is heard requesting dispatch to double check and see if the warrants were active.

Another officer confirmed that he had a hard copy of the warrant and headed to the scene. Not long after that, the officer can be heard yelling, “Shots fired, shots fired.”

A dispatcher checks to see if the officer is OK,

“Is it you or the other subject?,” she asked.

The officer replied, “he grabbed the gun … he’s down, he’s bleeding.”

Other officers arrived and set up a perimeter around the scene and the NH AG and NHSP were called in to investigate.

Jason Casey, an assistant attorney general, confirmed to media outlets at around 5 p.m. that the New Hampshire State Police Major Crime Unit was at the scene.

“This is an unfolding investigation and additional information will be provided as soon as possible while still protecting the integrity of the investigation,” he noted.
