New Hampshire Corrections Fugitive Arrested After Standoff In Canterbury

Oliver Nicholas Blackstone was arrested Tuesday on a parole violation after being convicted of acts prohibited and now faces new charges.

CONCORD, NH — A fugitive of the week from late July is in custody after a stand-off with police, according to the New Hampshire Department of Corrections.

Oliver Nicholas Blackstone, 37, was wanted on a parole violation after being convicted on an acts prohibited charge. His arrest warrant was issued in October 2023.

Blackstone, according to officials, was arrested on Tuesday in Canterbury after a three-hour standoff at a home in that town.

“Blackstone is now in custody and will face charges related to the initial warrant, as well as pending additional charges stemming from the standoff,” officials said.

Blackstone’s criminal history dates back about a decade after being accused of witness tampering in Alton in October 2014. In December 2015, he was also accused of harassment in Alton. The tampering charge was nolle prossed and the harassment charge was remanded in May 2016.

In September 2017, he was accused of methamphetamine possession after two separate incidents in Laconia in March and May 2017. In May 2018, he was charged with acts prohibited after an incident in September 2017 in Laconia.

In July 2018, he was accused of sale of a controlled or narcotic drug in Belmont after an incident in February 2018 and three acts prohibited counts and heroin possession in Belmont in May 2018.

In July 2018, Blackstone pleaded guilty to the sale and heroin possession charges. He was sentenced to 5 to 10 years in prison, all suspended for eight years and forfeited $10,230 seized by law enforcement, four to eight years with a mandatory minimum of four years suspected for three years, and half to seven years in prison, with three and half years mandatory minimum, with 69 days time served.
