NH Home Explosion Leads To Burglary Investigation

NH Fire Marshal: Shane Fortier and Adam Dalton were arrested this week on conspiracy charges after a home exploded in Wilmot in May 2017.

CONCORD, NH — Two men have been arrested on burglary charges after a multi-month investigation into a home explosion incident in Wilmot, according to a press alert. Shane Fortier, 29, left, and Adam Dalton, 25, were charged with a single felony count each of conspiracy to commit burglary. According to officials, Wilmot Fire and Rescue teams as well as police were called to a house on Route 4A at just before 8 a.m. on May 1, 2017, for a report of a house that had exploded.

When they arrived, they found a structure fire that was fully involved as well as man outside who had “severe burn injuries to his face, hands, and knees,” according to Adam Fanjoy, a fire investigator with the NH DOS.

Fire investigators were called in to inspect the home and began investigating the incident. As a result of the joint investigation with Wilmot Police, the fire marshal’s office charged both suspects.

Dalton was released on $10,000 cash bail and is due in court on Dec. 28. Fortier refused bail and was held. He’ll be arraigned in Merrimack County Superior Court on Monday.

Fanjoy noted that additional charges are expected. He added that along with local firefighters and police, officers from New London, Danbury, and Bradford all assisted with the investigation.
