LONDONDERRY, NH — Two people were sent to the hospital on Wednesday after a crash on Interstate 93 just north of Exit 4 in Londonderry.

Around 3:30 p.m., New Hampshire State Police, Londonderry police, and Londonderry fire and rescue teams were called to a crash involving a trooper cruiser on the northbound side of the highway. The state police collision, analysis, and reconstruction unit was also requested.

A trooper, who was on the right shoulder of the highway, was inside a cruiser providing safety services at a construction site at the time of the crash, Amber Lagace, the public information officer for state police, said. The cruiser’s blue emergency lights were also activated, she said.

According to an investigation, a 2017 Hyundai Elantra, driven by Michael Shanahan, 36, of North Chelmsford, Massachusetts, crashed into the cruiser.

“Immediately prior to the crash,” Lagace said, “the Elantra was seen driving in the right breakdown lane before striking the state police cruiser.”

The trooper and Shanahan were taken to Elliot Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

She said state police requested anyone with additional info or who may have witnessed the incident to contact Trooper Luan Sanches at Luan.G.Sanches@dos.nh.gov or 603-227‐0114.

Lagace said on Thursday that no charges had been filed and the case was still an open investigation.
