CONCORD, NH — A fugitive from North Carolina, on the lam for more than two and half years, was arrested in Henniker on Wednesday.

Steven Brian Caudle, 45, of Liberty, NC, a felon due to an assault with a deadly weapon conviction, was wanted on an arrest warrant out of the Alamance County Superior Court due to probation violations. He was convicted of stabbing a family member during an altercation. Caudle “absconded from supervision,” Jeffery White, a deputy marshal in New Hampshire, said. The warrant was issued in August 2019.

“Caudle was aware of the outstanding arrest warrant and fled North Carolina,” White said.

Investigators have been searching for him since that time.

Recently, a lead was developed that Caudle might be in Henniker. Investigators later confirmed he was living in an apartment on Rush Street. On Wednesday, task force members and Henniker police arrested Caudle “hiding next to a bed inside the apartment,” White said.

Caudle was arrested without further incident and transported to the Henniker Police Department for processing as a fugitive from justice based on the outstanding Alamance County warrant, he said. He is being held at the Merrimack County Jail pending a future court appearance. Later, Caudle will be returned to North Carolina.

U.S. Marshal Nick Willard said the Caudle case was another great example of “you can run, but you can’t hide.” Willard said, “Just because you fled nine states away does not make you immune from arrest; Mr. Caudle just found that out today.”
