At last week’s town meeting in Bow, the decision to build a new public safety building was defeated by eight votes.

A motion was made for reconsideration and we will vote again on Thursday, March 19.

The new building will house police, fire and emergency management departments. The current fire station, built in 1956, was fine for a small town of 1,200, not for a population that has grown to approximately 7,500 people. The current facility is ill-equipped and unsafe for the workers.

The new building will meet the needs of the town for at least 40 years versus adding to the current building piece by piece, resulting in uncertain costs in the future. Additionally, the high school bond will be paid off before the new public safety building bond begins, and our taxes will actually go down.

Public safety is important to all of the residents of Bow and it should be our first priority. For the safety of our families, our children, and for all police, fire and rescue personnel, I ask that voters attend the town meeting on Thursday, March 19, at 7 p.m. and vote YES on Article 3, to build a new public safety building.
