Police: Man in 'Critical Condition' After Being Hit on Route 3A
Bow Police investigators are asking for any witnesses to come forward.

Update, 3:18 p.m. on Jan. 6:
Sgt. Merrigan has issued the following update in the Route 3A pedestrian incident:
This is an update to yesterday’s release regarding the accident on Route 3A near Grandview Rd. Preliminary investigation indicates that the pedestrian, 45 year old Brian Szarka, no permanent address, was walking in the southbound travel lane of Route 3A, wearing dark clothing, when around 5:40 am, a snowplow driver swerved to avoid Szarka. The investigation has not revealed if Szarka was struck by the plow. There was a light colored minivan following the snowplow that left the scene. It is unknown if the minivan was involved in the accident. Despite the action of the driver of a tractor-trailer following the mininvan, Szarka was struck in the foot by one wheel of the tractor-trailer. As of late this morning, Brian Szarka remains in critical condition. R&R Enterprise of Hooksett owns the snowplow, the tractor-trailer is owned by St. Onge Transport Inc of Newport, VT. At this time, it does not appear that any charges will be brought against either of the commercial vehicle operators. Investigators are continuing to try and identify the minivan and its operator. Anyone who may have witnessed the accident or may have any information regarding the minivan are encouraged to call the Bow Police Department at 228-0511.

At around 5:40 am., officers were called to the area for a report of a motor vehicle accident in which a pedestrian sustained life-threatening injuries.
Right now, details are limited, but Sgt. Art Merrigan of the Bow Police Department stated that it appeared as if a large snowplow and a tractor-trailer were both involved in the crash. Bow Fire and Rescue teams took the injured party to Concord Hospital.
“Because this is an ongoing investigation, we are not releasing any information regarding the owner’s and or operators of the vehicles nor the identity of the pedestrian,” Merrigan noted in a statement.
New Hampshire State Police also assisted at the scene, he noted.
