Plow Truck Damages Propane Tank In Concord, Causing A Gas Leak

Concord fire and rescue teams, as well as police, were sent to Hoit Road after a plow truck damaged a propane tank, causing a gas leak.

CONCORD, NH — Concord fire and rescue teams were sent to Hoit Road on Tuesday for a report of a propane tank that was leaking after it was struck by a truck.

Around 7:30 p.m., capital region dispatch began receiving calls about the incident. The tank, a 1,000-gallon, was leaking gas after the plow truck struck the top of the tank. Dispatch spoke to both the homeowner and the driver. Eastern Propane was also notified. The driver told dispatch it was “leaking pretty good.”

The fire commander requested a second engine as a precaution. Bow and Loudon tankers were requested to assist.

When firefighters arrived, they requested Concord police to close the street off at Sanborn Road and Mountain Road.

“We’ll give them a try,” the dispatcher said. “They are pretty busy.”

They also confirmed the leak from an underground tank and suggested they should start dousing it with water. However, a second firefighter said to hold off spraying water on the tank.

At around 8 p.m., the fire commander asked if anyone had heard from Eastern Propane yet and whether police were shutting down the road. They also requested a rapid recall for other firefighters to cover stations since they would be at the scene for a while. The propane company said they were about 10 minutes out, dispatch said.

At around 9:45 p.m., the tank was secured, and firefighters were released from the scene.
