CONCORD, NH — Police and the Concord Regional Crimeline are warning capital region residents that calls from police officers claiming residents missed jury duty or court appearances and must pay fines are fake.

Concord police are investigating calls residents received in the past few days making the fraudulent claims. The scammers claim residents must pay the fines immediately to avoid being arrested, Deputy Chief John Thomas of the Concord Police Department said. He said the scammers were requesting credit cards or other forms of payment to resolve the fake issues.

“These calls are not legitimate,” Thomas said. “No law enforcement agency would contact anyone in this manner and accept payment to clear citations or violations over the phone. If you have received a similar call, please contact your local law enforcement agency to report the incident.”

Back in January, police took reports about similar calls, where the scammers claimed to be connected to the sheriff’s department. Those calls were also fake.

The Concord Police Department asked anyone with information regarding the incident to contact the Concord Police Department at 603-225-8600 or contact the Concord Regional Crime line at 603-226-3100 or online at concordregionalcrimeline.com.
