CONCORD, NH — Residents of Concord are being hit with scammers claiming to be law enforcement officials asking for credit card payments.

The scammers are calling Concord and Penacook as well as capital region residents, claiming to be police officers or Merrimack County sheriff’s deputies. The scammers claim fines are owed and need to be paid immediately to avoid arrest, Deputy Chief John Thomas of the Concord Police Department said.

“The individuals are attempting to get unsuspecting victims to pay with credit cards or other forms of payment,” he said. “These calls are not legitimate. No law enforcement agency would contact anyone in this manner and accept payment to clear citations or violations over the phone.”
