Possible Pipe Bomb Found at Sewalls Falls

New Hampshire State Police detonate item found along the shores of the Merrimack River in Concord.

Concord Police, Fire and Rescue teams, and other officials are at the Sewalls Falls Recreation Area for a report of a found item that appeared to be a pipe bomb, according to reports from witnesses and scanner chatter.

The item was found around 2 p.m. on Sept. 7, 2015, by a man who was fishing in the river.

“I almost stepped on it,” he noted in an Instant Message to Concord NH Patch.

The man called 911 and reported the pipe bomb, which was about six inches in length with caps on each end and electrical tape on it.

First responders arrived at the scene and closed off the area from the Second Street boat ramp north to the Sewalls Falls Road Bridge. The New Hampshire State Police bomb squad was also called in to detonate the item.

Witnesses reported that it appeared to have washed up on shore near the trail. According to scanner chatter, police checked other areast along the trail to see if there were other pipe bombs or items resembling what was found.
