Rallying Around Recovery in New Hampshire

We’ve all heard the terms “recovering alcoholic,” or “recovering addict,” but do we know what those really mean? Do we realize that recovery is a life-long, and often lonely, journey that people often travel in silence? Do we know what happens when someone successfully completes a treatment program but doesn’t have the resources to stay sober?

Recovery doesn’t have to be so daunting. Join Hope for New Hampshire Recovery, U.S. Sen. Kelly Ayotte, U.S. Rep. Carol Shea-Porter and others this Saturday from 11am-2pm at the State House in Concord for the We Believe in Recovery Rally.

Hope for New Hampshire Recovery believes that Recovery Community Centers are the key to ensuring that people who’ve been through addiction treatment programs stay on the road to successful, drug and alcohol-free lives. That’s why we’re working, under the leadership of our new Executive Director Cheryle Pacapelli, to set up these centers across the state – places people in recovery can turn to, without shame, for the guidance, support, and resources to stay in recovery.

Pacapelli said “Recovery Community Centers are a place where people in recovery can come and feel safe, to be with others in recovery, and help the next person coming in the door.”

We also believe there is no shame to being in recovery – a theme filmmaker Greg Williams explores in his award-winning documentary “Anonymous People.” He’ll join us Saturday for an honor guard parade to celebrate long-term recovery, show the public recovery is real, and give hope to those just starting their recovery, that we do recover.
