RMS Principal Jim McCollum issued a letter to parents this afternoon stating that a shelf collapsed in a closet in a science classroom and two chemicals spilled and mixed. The classroom was evacuated but there was no need to evacuate the entire school due to the spill being contained. Concord Fire arrived and assessed that the spill just needed to be cleaned up and everyone was safe, he said.
"While I can appreciate that everyone was looking for information and updates, we were focused on being present and making good decisions for our school community in this process," he added. "There was no reason to evacuate and disrupt learning. It is my hope that parents in our community know Concord School District will always do everything to ensure student safety while also making decisions that ensure the pursuit of academic excellence is protected as well."
