Winter Storm Warnings Issued: Snow is Coming to NH

The NWS issues alerts. How many inches will the Granite State get? Will the storm linger through Tuesday's primary? Here are the details.

The National Weather Service issued Winter Storm Warnings and Advisories at 3:10 p.m. on Feb. 7, 2016, for Merrimack, Hillsborough, and Rockingham counties, running through Tuesday morning.

Residents of the southern part of New Hampshire should expect hazardous weather beginning tomorrow morning and running through at least Monday night, possibly Tuesday morning.

“Snow begins from south to north Monday morning and continues into Monday night,” according to the alert. “Some light snow could linger into Tuesday but much of the accumulation will be over by Tuesday morning.”

Accumulations for the storm are expected to be between three to six inches presuming that the storm does not turn north to northwest, like last week’s storm did, changing what was supposed to be a dusting to anywhere from five to eight inches in most New Hampshire Patch communities.

“Roads will become snow covered and slippery,” the alert noted. “Strong winds will cause blowing and drifting snow and could lead to low visibility in spots.”

The snowstorm is expected to cause some travel and commuter problems, so be prepared, especially if you’re heading south to Massachusetts or New York.

In its New Hampshire first-in-the-nation primary weather forecast, AccuWeather.com also expects the snow to cause “minor issues” as voters head to the polls. But it is not expected to significantly impact voter turnout.

Temps will be chilly – in the 20s – so if you’re planning on standing out at the polls during the election, do bundle up to keep warm.
